Your initial Appointment:

You will begin by telling your story. What hurts? When did it begin? How does this affect your daily life? What prior treatment have you undergone? What would you like to get back to doing? What is your goal? Your doctor will then ask additional specific questions to complete your story.

Information in the history will be used to determine what needs to be assessed in the exam. Several functional, orthopedic, neurological, and joint tests will be performed. Often the area that hurts is not the only problem. These tests will reveal areas of weakness, muscle imbalance, and reduced flexibility, which may be contributing to your pain.

All the pertinent information from the history and exam is carefully and thoughtfully integrated to form a complete diagnosis. Your injury will be explained in an easy to understand manner. You will have ample opportunity and be encouraged to ask questions.

Your treatment plan including the types of strategies necessary to fix your injury will be explained. Your treatment process does not only involve interventions performed in the clinic, but by necessity, will include home exercises, advice, modification of perpetuating factors, etc. While under our care, we will help you recognize and correct the problems that produced your injury in the first place.
